According to the World Health Organization, 451 cases of dengue fever were recorded in China in 2018.
As of September 4th, in Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China), there were 29 cases of dengue fever that resulted in closure of a famous Lion Rock Country Park for 2 months, as a possible cell for the virus spread.
Over the past 30 years, the spreading of dengue virus worldwide has increased by 30 times, with more and more countries are reporting their first outbreaks of the disease. According to the World Health Organization, mosquitoes infect over 300 million people a year with malaria and dengue, just two of the life threatening diseases mosquitoes can carry. Of those 300 million 800,000 will die from malaria and another 20,000 from dengue virus.
Along with dengue virus, China also faces high risk of Zika virus, coming from neighboring countries, especially from South-East Asia. In total, in 2016 and 2017, China reported 26 incidents of imported Zika virus. On October 23d, first case of the Zika virus was confirmed in the country.
Please note that Zika virus, as well as the dengue fever, is transmitted through a mosquito bite.
